{"id":520,"date":"2021-01-13T13:23:48","date_gmt":"2021-01-13T18:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unified.co.grant.wi.gov\/?p=520"},"modified":"2021-01-13T13:23:48","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T18:23:48","slug":"safe-haven-for-newborns-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unified.co.grant.wi.gov\/index.php\/2021\/01\/13\/safe-haven-for-newborns-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Safe Haven for Newborns Information"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Safe Haven, also known as \u201cinfant relinquishment,\u201d allows a\u00a0parent to leave\u00a0their newborn in a safe place in certain circumstances with certain individuals.<br>Under <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.legis.wisconsin.gov\/statutes\/statutes\/48\/IV\/195\/1\">Wisconsin law<\/a>, a\u00a0parent can leave their unharmed newborn child under 72 hours old with a:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>police officer<\/li><li>911 emergency medical staff person<\/li><li>hospital staff member<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>without fear of legal consequences. If you do not indicate that you will be back for your child this is called \u201cSafe Haven\u201d or \u201cInfant Relinquishment.\u201d You do not have to give your name or address to the professional accepting the baby, unless:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The baby has been harmed<\/li><li>You are being forced by someone to give up the baby<\/li><li>The baby is more than 3 days old<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be asked if you are willing to fill out a form. This form is NOT required.
