This is worth celebrating! The week of April 21-26, 2025 is designated “Sonny Days in Lancaster.” It will be a week full of giving back, paying it forward, and spreading some sunshine throughout the community in honor of Sonny Tiedemann and his family.
Charles “Sonny” Tiedemann was a disabled boy, born to Charlie and Iva Tiedemann in 1914. Sonny got his nickname because of his sunny disposition, despite his disabilities. Charlie was the baker at the Purity Bakery here in Lancaster from 1916-1946. Sonny’s parents had a special car built for Sonny that allowed him to pedal short distances on sidewalks and interact with people.
Long story short, because the people of Lancaster were so nice to Sonny, his family left part of their estate, $4.33 million, to the Lancaster Community Fund in 2014. The people of Lancaster have benefited greatly from this generous donation and will continue to do so far into the future. Join us at the museum on Saturday, April 26th to see Sonny’s peddle car and celebrate!

Triple P is often mentioned in research as a good program. They are offering it for free, and it’s virtual! This is a great opportunity, as it is expensive to implement programs like this. Click on explore our upcoming classes for more information.
